It goes without saying that maintenance and distribution form an essential part of the Smart- Bike system. Dirty and faulty bikes are not only a nuisance to the user and the city, but disrupt the public transportation chain. In order to guarantee a smooth and problem free management, our service team offers 24 hour assistance. Maintenance and repairs are performed both locally at the stations as well as in the warehouse. Due to the module format, repairs on site can be done in a minimum amount of time by shifting modules thereby causing as little disruption as possible to public space.
The SmartBike station sends out signals to the service team warning them of repair situations. It registers unusual bike movements and potential bike repair situations, for example when bikes have been returned within an extremely short time span and in the same station, and subsequently the service team will go to the station to perform necassary repairs.
All cities are characterized by the flow of people. At the beginning of each work day, the flows are generally directed towards office and work areas while it is the opposite at the end of the day. In the evenings and during the weekend people move more towards shopping and recreational areas.
These movements of people have been carefully studied and taken into account by the SmartBike service. Circulating redistribution vehicles ensure full availability of bikes at any time of the day. The vehicles pick up bikes from fuller docking stations and replenishing the stations that hold a low amount of bikes. Again, the service team is warned through the central system that receives warning signals when stations are almost full or almost empty.
